Kenya's tea industry is looking to shake off its traditional image as a breakfast drink, thanks to a new partnership between Naivas and Kenya Tea Packers (Ketepa).
According to data from the Tea Directorate, Kenyans consume only 5 percent of the total tea produced in the country, a figure the two companies hope to change through their 'It's Tea Time' campaign.
Speaking during the launch of the inaugural Kenya Tea Month in August, Ketepa Managing Director Albert Otochi emphasized the health benefits of tea, saying it is the second most consumed beverage globally, after water.
Naivas' Kimani added that the younger generation is looking for new innovations in tea, and the company has organized interactive sessions during the month to educate consumers on tea brewing and tasting.
During the Tea Month, Kenyans will be educated on the healthy benefits of tea, methods of preparing various types of tea, and how to benefit from its health attributes. The two partners will also be rewarding their valued customers with attractive discounts and offers.
At the launch, Dr. Simon Ochanda, a food scientist and tea researcher at the Tea Research Foundation of Kenya, made a presentation on the health benefits consumers can derive from taking different types of tea.
