On June 21st, 2019, the Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) held its 33rd graduation ceremony, where 118 PhD degrees were awarded to students.
According to JKUAT Vice-Chancellor Prof. Victoria Ngumi, the students earned their awards through merit, following due process in regards to coursework, research, external examination, and publications.
JKUAT has received a report from the Commission for University Education (CUE) regarding the 118 PhD degrees, and is working on the recommendations made by the commission.
A committee has been constituted to work on the report, and table its recommendations to the Senate for consideration and implementation before it is handed over to the education cabinet secretary within three months.
The Senate is expected to review the 118 PhDs awarded during the 33rd graduation ceremony and make decisions on the issue raised from the report before reverting to the Commission on University Education.
