On August 1, 2019, East African Breweries (EABL) announced plans to retrench over 100 employees at its business support centre in Nairobi.

This move marks one of the latest large-scale layoffs in corporate Kenya, with the Diageo Africa Business Service Centre (ABSC) set to shut down and its role outsourced to other markets.

According to a report by Business Daily, the unit runs back-office processes required for Diageo's finance, supply, human resources, and sales and marketing functions.

Diageo stated that the changes will not affect the core functions of its local subsidiary EABL, and the retrenchments will be done gradually, concluding in March 2020.
