On August 1, 2019, friends and colleagues of the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth gathered at Starehe Boys Centre to celebrate his life and share memories of their time with him.

During the memorial, former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth recalled how Okoth had approached him seeking advice on how to deal with his political dilemma in the run-up to the 2017 elections.

Okoth had been struggling to get the nomination certificate for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), and Kenneth had reserved a ticket for him in his Kenya National Congress party, just in case.

“Ken was struggling with party nominations and I reserved a ticket for him, just in case he missed the ODM one which he finally got,” Kenneth said.

Okoth's widow, Monica, also spoke at the event, thanking everyone for their support and love during her husband's illness.

“We were best friends. Ken was ill in the last two years and it was sad to watch him suffer. Thank you all for your support and love you gave us,” she said.

Other speakers, including Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda and civil society representative Diana Gichengo, hailed Okoth as a multi-talented leader who played his role well in various sectors.
