On August 1, 2019, a tense standoff brewed in Nandi County as MCAs threatened to occupy Governor Stephen Sang's office until he takes action against corrupt officials.
The MCAs, who are members of the county assembly, are demanding the immediate firing of two executive members and several chief officers accused of corruption and malpractices.
The targeted officials include Lands CeC Stanley Baliach and Education CeC Valentine Chumo, who are accused of misusing Sh200 million meant for county projects.
According to a report by an ad-hoc committee, the officials have been involved in numerous malpractices, including the misuse of funds meant for the construction of Early Childhood Development Education classes.
The project, which was factored in the 2018/19 financial year, has seen no classroom constructed to date, with millions of shillings unaccounted for.
The committee also raised concerns over the theft of construction materials for vocational colleges.
Interestingly, the committee has recommended the return of Hilary Koech, the suspended roads and transport CeC, who was suspended along with 16 other senior officers three months ago on claims of corruption and skewed tender awards.
Speaker Joshua Kiptoo has emphasized that the governor must take action against the officials implicated in graft, as per the ad-hoc committee's report.
