Kenya's Football Kenya Federation (FKF) is grappling with a severe financial crisis that threatens to derail the country's chances in the 2020 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.
The crisis has left the federation unable to pay allowances to players, prompting reports that Harambee Stars may consider failing to honour their second leg clash against Tanzania.
The first leg of the two-legged fixture, played in Dar Es Salaam, ended in a barren draw, giving Kenya a slight advantage ahead of the second leg.
However, the uncertainty surrounding the match has not deterred the Kenyan team, who are still in camp, optimistic that the government will intervene in time to save the match.
According to reports, the federation has failed to put in place major logistics, including booking the match day venue and catering for accommodation of match officials.
The Sports Fund Act has introduced stringent rules that the federation must adhere to before receiving funds from the government, including writing a letter requesting funds from the Sports Commissioner before it reaches the National Sports Council.
The winner of the two-legged fixture will face Sudan in the next round of the tournament.
