Published on August 1, 2019, Samsung continues to support its older devices, including the Galaxy A5 2017, a mid-range device that has been around for over two years.

While the Galaxy A7 2017, which launched alongside the Galaxy A5 2017, does not receive the same treatment, the Galaxy A5 2017 is now receiving a new update that bumps the security patch level to July 2019.

The update, arriving as version A520FXXSBCSG2, fixes 10 critical issues and over a dozen high-risk Android vulnerabilities, as well as 13 vulnerabilities targeting Galaxy devices.

One of the addressed vulnerabilities made it possible to enable and disable Bluetooth via the lock screen without verification.

Galaxy A5 2017 owners can check if the update is available through Settings > Software update, then manually download and install it.
