The Angolan football club Petro Atletico de Luanda is set to arrive in Kenya on Friday ahead of their Caf Confederation Cup group D final match against Kenyan champions Gor Mahia.
The decisive encounter is scheduled for Sunday at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, starting at 7pm. The team, comprising 21 players and 20 officials, will depart from Luanda’s Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport at 2pm and arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by 6pm.
They will conduct a training session on Saturday to familiarize themselves with the pitch. Both teams are vying for maximum points to secure a spot in the quarterfinals, with the draw set for March 20 in Cairo, Egypt.
Currently, group D is tightly contested, with all teams having a chance to advance. Petro Atletico de Luanda, who defeated Gor Mahia 2-1 in Luanda on February 13, hold seven points—equal to Algeria’s Hussein Dey, though with a better goal difference. Egypt’s Zamalek lead the group with eight points, while Gor Mahia remain at the bottom with six.
Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay emphasized the importance of the match, stating, "We have to put in 100 percent work rate in this game to win, no two ways about it." Petro Atletico de Luanda recently secured a 1-0 victory over Sporting de Cabinda in their domestic league, while Gor Mahia prepare to face Kakamega Homeboyz on Thursday.
