Larry Madowo's Career Legacy: Empowering Young Professionals ¶
As Larry Madowo prepares to join Columbia University's Journalism School, his legacy as a career enabler continues to inspire young professionals.
During his stint as BBC Africa Business Editor, Larry hired 30 people, earning him plaudits on Twitter and cementing his reputation as the 'assist king' of opening doors for young professionals.
One such beneficiary of Larry's benevolence is Poet Tear Drops, a Churchill Show comedian who shared his remarkable story of how Larry's interview on NTV's 'The Trend' changed his life.
According to Poet Tear Drops, he had given up on art when he received a call for an interview on NTV's 'The Trend', which was then hosted by Larry Madowo. He was weaving baskets in Huruma to make ends meet and had only Sh70 fare to the city centre.
After the show, Tear Drops could not go back home due to a curfew in Huruma following the murder of a cop in the area. However, it was not until the next day that he found out that his life was beginning to change for the better.
"The next day I went to a cybercafe and had gained over 5k followers and thousands of tweets, replies and mentions," Tear Drops recalled. "That's how my career picked up and I've never looked back."
"Shukran Larry Madowo for believing in us and providing us with chances and opportunities," he added.
As Larry Madowo takes a break at BBC Africa to pursue his studies, his impact on the lives of young professionals continues to inspire and motivate.
