On September 25, Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei will contest for a Vice President's position at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Congress in Doha, Qatar.
With nine contestants vying for four positions, Tuwei's bid is seen as a chance for Africa to regain its seat at the IAAF table, which it lost in 2015 when former AK President Isaiah Kiplagat's bid was unsuccessful.
As the current Sports Fund chairman and Confederation of Africa Athletics Vice President, Tuwei's leadership experience and knowledge of the sport make him a strong contender for the position.
His election would ensure that Africa's interests are articulated effectively at the IAAF, and would pave the way for the continent to host top-class races and develop its athletics resources.
Kenya, being a powerhouse in athletics, deserves to be represented at the highest level, and Tuwei's bid is seen as a step in the right direction.
