On Wednesday, FIFA announced the nominees for its annual awards, with Liverpool's Champions League-winning trio of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Sadio Mane making the cut for The Best FIFA Men's Player award.
Salah and Mane shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, each scoring 22 goals last season. Meanwhile, Messi led the league in scoring with 36 goals in La Liga and 12 goals in the Champions League.
Van Dijk, the Premier League Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Year, was instrumental in Liverpool's sixth European Cup triumph.
Other nominees for the men's award include Cristiano Ronaldo, who won Italy's Serie A title with Juventus and led Portugal to the inaugural UEFA Nations League title.
The nominees for the women's award include U.S. World Cup winners Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan, and Julie Ertz, as well as last year's Ballon d'Or winner Ada Hegerberg.

The winners will be announced in a ceremony in Milan on September 23.
