On August 1, 2019, Council of Governors Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya announced that he would be stepping down as the chairman of the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) to focus on county development.

Speaking at the county headquarters, Mr. Oparanya explained that he had been delegating most of his duties to his deputy as he spent much of his time in Nairobi chairing meetings.

He stated that relinquishing his position as LREB chairman would enable him to devote more time to county matters.

LREB was established in 2015, bringing together 14 counties in the Lake Region.
