Published on August 1, 2019, the Department of State has revealed statistics from the Diversity Visa Lottery (DV-2020), showing that 1,801 Kenyans were among the winners.
Out of a total of 14,722,798 applicants from around the world, 83,884 were successful in winning the lottery.
The countries with the highest number of winners were Egypt with 5,568, Russia with 5,118, and the Democratic Republic of Congo with 4,743.
The Diversity Visa program makes 50,000 permanent resident visas available to nationals of countries with low immigration rates to the United States.
Winners of the DV-2020 lottery, who entered during the open registration period between October 3, 2018, and November 6, 2018, have until September 30, 2020, to apply for an Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application (DS-260) and receive a permanent resident immigrant visa.
Interestingly, 2,997 Kenyans won the lottery for DV-2019, while 2,090 won in the DV-2018 entry period.
