On July 31, 2019, the government announced plans to give Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso a State funeral.

Preparations were underway in Bomet to receive her body, with Deputy Governor Hillary Barchok meeting with county officials and Jubilee Party leaders to finalize burial arrangements.

Dr. Barchok stated, 'We will do everything within our means in conjunction with the national government to ensure Dr. Laboso is accorded a befitting send off. It is sad to lose such a pillar, but we shall soldier on to implement her development agenda.'

County officials, including County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding and Police Commander Naomi Ichami, inspected the Bomet Green Stadium, where the body would be viewed the following day.

Dr. Laboso's body was initially lying at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi, before being taken to All Saints Cathedral for a requiem mass and later flown to Bomet.

From Bomet, the body would be flown to Koru in Kisumu County for an overnight stay, before a funeral service at Kandege Secondary School grounds and burial at the family home on Saturday.
