On July 31, 2019, the trial of ousted Sudanese leader Omar al-Bashir on corruption charges was set to begin on August 17, according to his lawyer.
Hashim al-Gaaly, Bashir's lawyer, stated that the trial was delayed due to security reasons, and the judge informed them that the trial would now start on August 17.
The charges against Bashir include possessing foreign currency, corruption, and receiving gifts illegally, with one of the charges related to approximately seven million euros given as a grant by a donor and not included in the state budget.
According to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Sudan's army ruler, more than $113 million worth of cash in three currencies was seized from Bashir's residence in April.
Bashir was ousted by the army after months of nationwide protests that erupted in December 2018 following his government's decision to triple the price of bread.
