On July 31, 2019, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu faced a tough day in court as he sought to secure his release on corruption charges.
However, his wife Susan Wangari Ndung'u was not so unlucky, as she was freed on Sh4 million bail after her lawyer, John Swaka, posted the cash.
Waititu, on the other hand, was not as fortunate, with the court directing his lawyers to serve the application for lighter bail terms to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, ahead of the hearing scheduled for Friday.
As the day drew to a close, Waititu had not secured his release, raising the possibility of him spending his third day in remand.
Earlier, the court had granted Waititu and his co-accused, Zacharia Njenga Mbugua and Joyce Ngina Musyoka, bail of Sh15 million, with an alternative bond of Sh30 million.
However, Waititu was seeking to have the bail reduced to Sh15 cash, arguing that the current amount was excessive.
He also wanted the court to determine the effect of barring him from accessing his office, as directed by chief magistrate Lawrence Mugambi.
