The Kenyan boxing team has moved to the Kasarani Stadium for residential training, a significant boost to their preparations for the 2019 All African Games in Rabat, Morocco, starting on August 19.
According to Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) president Anthony Ombok Otieno, the team has secured government approval to shift their training camp from the Mathare Police Depot to the Kasarani Stadium.
“I thank CS sports Ambassador Amina Mohamed for her support as we prepare to leave for Rabat on August 15,” Ombok said.
Assistant coach David Munuhe expressed confidence in the team's readiness, citing the benefits of residential training, which allows for two training sessions per day with breaks in between.
“The good thing about residential training is that you can do two sessions and get a chance for refreshment, unlike here where we combine both sessions,” Munuhe noted.
The team will be trimmed down to eight boxers from 10 to comply with Olympic standards, a directive from the Games organizers that has put the coaches in a difficult position.
The final squad will depart for Rabat on August 15, four days before the start of the boxing event on August 19.
