On Wednesday, July 31, 2019, a memorial service was held at Starehe Boys Centre and School in Nairobi to honor the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth.
The service followed a private viewing ceremony of the deceased body at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Reverend Josephat Wangoto, the school chaplain, led the service, which was attended by notable guests including Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.
Starehe alumni and students who were sponsored by the late Okoth were also in attendance.
Ken Okoth passed away at the Nairobi Hospital on Friday last week after a long battle with colorectal cancer.
The school remembered Okoth not only as an alumnus but also as a man who had a passion for education and had built schools that enabled hundreds of young people to obtain quality education.
During his time at the institution, Okoth had many life-long friends, participated in various co-curricular and cultural activities, and excelled at his studies.
The school celebrated his leadership skills, which were nurtured during his time as part of the student leadership that ran the Centre.
Okoth's leadership was said to mirror the 'Starehe Mintmark' values of Integrity, Sacrificial Service, Self-Discipline, Commitment to Excellence, Resilience, and Fraternity.
