President Uhuru Kenyatta called for expanded Kenya-Rwanda cooperation during a speech at Rwanda's Defence Forces Combat Training Centre, urging greater people-to-people engagement and regional integration.
The Kenyan leader praised Rwanda's post-genocide economic transformation, noting its World Bank ease-of-doing-business ranking and regional influence. 'Rwanda has emerged from its past challenges to become a model economy and Africa's shining star,' he stated.
During the annual national leadership retreat, Kenyatta highlighted existing bilateral achievements including border facilitation and ICT linkages. 'As governments, we've made progress, but we must connect more to unlock shared potential,' he said.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame described Kenyatta as 'a brother and friend' during their meeting. The Kenyan leader also held private discussions with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni during a stopover on his return journey.
