Bomet East Member of Parliament Beatrice Kones disclosed that her son, Collins Kipyegon Kalya, sent her a final message before taking his life while she was abroad. The incident occurred on March 11, 2019, during her attendance at the Pan African Parliament in South Africa.
Kones recounted that Kipyegon, the third child of former Minister Kipkalya Kones and herself, instructed her to care for his children prior to his death. "He sent me a message stating he was taking his life and I should take care of his children," she said during his burial.
The MP described Kipyegon as a "driver and partner in farming enterprises" who had no apparent material needs. She emphasized his apolitical nature and expressed grief over his death. "The action was unwarranted as he did not lack anything," Kones stated.
Calling for systemic change, Kones urged Governor Joyce Laboso to establish counseling centers in every ward. "Counselling centres should be set up in every ward in the Country to assist youth and professional counsellors should visit schools," she emphasized.
