Nigerian professor Pius Adesanmi, a Carleton University lecturer in Canada, died in the Ethiopian Airlines crash on March 11, 2019, which killed all 157 passengers and crew aboard.
Days before his death, Adesanmi shared a passage from Psalms 139:9-10 on social media that has since attracted attention for its perceived connection to his fate. The verse states: "If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me."
The academic, recognized for his scholarly work and public engagement, was traveling internationally prior to the tragedy. His final social media message has prompted discussions about its significance in relation to the crash.
The original post, dated 2012, was shared years before the 2019 incident, with no indication of foreknowledge about the disaster. Colleagues noted the verse's thematic resonance with his academic focus on African philosophy and spirituality.
