AFC Leopards confirmed the return of Kenyan international defender David "Cheche" Ochieng’ on Monday via social media, securing him on a six-month contract. The deal, valued at Sh1 million, follows months of speculation linking the 27-year-old to the club since early 2019.
Ochieng’ has been without a club since leaving Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna in 2018. Despite interest from Libyan, Egyptian, and Moroccan teams, he chose to rejoin the Kenyan Premier League to focus on regaining fitness ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers under coach Sebastien Migne.
The defender previously played for Nairobi Stima, Tusker, and AFC Leopards before moving to Saudi Arabian club Al Tawoon in 2014. His return comes as Leopards struggle in the league, sitting 14th with 16 points from 16 matches and conceding 22 goals.
AFC Leopards stated in a social media post: "We are delighted to announce the signing of Kenyan international David ‘Cheche’ Ochieng’ on a short-term contract." The club aims to strengthen its defense amid relegation concerns.
