On Tuesday morning, a tragic incident unfolded in Matharau slums, Thika, where a 36-year-old man, Anthony Musyoka, was left seriously injured after his wife, Mawia Mwangangi, scalded him with hot water.
According to neighbours, the couple had been experiencing longstanding domestic issues, which culminated in the tragic event.
One of the neighbours, Josephine Kanini, recounted how she was woken up by the husband's screams and rushed to their house, where she found him writhing in pain.
'I found him screaming in great pain with his body steaming. When I tried to take his shirt off, I saw how badly scalded he was,' Josephine Kanini narrated.
The neighbours later apprehended Mawia Mwangangi and handed her over to the police, who are currently investigating the incident.
Anthony Musyoka was taken to Thika Level Five Hospital and later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he is currently admitted.
