At 23, Kevin Ndirangu decided to pursue a certificate in electrical wiring after completing high school. He landed his first job as an assistant to a seasoned electrician in Nakuru town, working on various projects, including wiring homes. However, he soon realized that customers were buying low-quality electrical materials and accessories.
Seeing an opportunity, Ndirangu invested Sh10,000 to set up a small electrical appliances shop. As the business grew, he expanded it to include a range of electronic items and even acquired a struggling computer training business, which he successfully turned around.
Today, Ndirangu runs two businesses concurrently, with the shop operating for 11 years and the computer training business for eight years. Despite high competition from similar businesses in the neighbourhood, he has managed to thrive by focusing on good performance and reinvesting profits in both ventures.
Ndirangu's entrepreneurial journey has also led him to invest in the real estate sector, with several rental units currently under his ownership. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to start small, keep adding, and watch the value of their business grow.
