Rahab Nyawira, who was forced into prostitution, was later imprisoned for six years after being arrested in 2012. She described how she was initially given a bank card to withdraw 800,000 shillings in 2008, marking the start of her involvement in the trade.
"I was given a card to withdraw money, but the PIN was blocked. I worked with six men until 2012 when I was arrested. After serving my sentence, I began learning how to work with drugs and prostitution."
Nyawira recounted how she and her associates would drive to Tanzanian border areas, where they would meet clients and distribute alcohol before returning. She also described an incident where a university student helped her evade police, only for the authorities to later confirm his identity as an officer.
"A student tried to bribe me, but I refused. He later told me he was arrested, and the police confirmed he was an officer."
After completing her six-year sentence, Nyawira became an advocate for prisoners through the African Prison Project, helping inmates navigate legal challenges and rehabilitation programs.
