Religious figures from Embu county have called on Deputy President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga to temper their public remarks, warning that escalating exchanges could destabilize the nation.
Lieutenant Daniel Nzioka of the Salvation Army highlighted concerns that the week-long conflict between the two leaders risks reverting the country to a state of division, undermining the peace achieved through Raila Odinga's 2018 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Nzioka cautioned that inflammatory language from both sides could foster hostility among supporters, potentially sparking violence. "Ruto and Raila must exercise restraint in public statements, as their words risk inciting hatred that may lead to unrest," he stated through Citizen Digital.
Pastor Samson Mbogo of the Great Mission Church echoed these warnings, urging President Kenyatta to mediate. "Failure to address this could see the nation relapse into chaos similar to the pre-March 9, 2018, truce period, which left many dead," he said.
The dispute, initially tied to revelations about the Arror and Kimwarer dam scandals, has evolved into a broader political confrontation.
