Anthony Ngare, a veteran Kenyan journalist and former sports correspondent, was among the 32 Kenyans who perished in the Ethiopian Airlines flight 302 crash on March 10, 2019. The tragedy claimed 157 lives, including 149 passengers and eight crew members, en route from Addis Ababa to Nairobi.
A month before his death, Ngare received a heartfelt birthday letter from his daughter Sandrine, who expressed her love and gratitude for his support. The handwritten note, accompanied by a simple drawing, read: "Happy birthday dad. I love you so much. You correct me in my homework. You help me revise. I love my new school. I wish you a happy birthday. May God bless you." The message, discovered after his passing, highlighted their close relationship.
Ngare, a University of Nairobi graduate, worked as a communications officer at the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) after a career in journalism. The crash also killed 18 Canadians, six Egyptians, nine Ethiopians, seven French, eight Americans, and seven Britons, according to preliminary reports.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. The incident has left families of all 157 victims in mourning, with many grappling with the sudden loss of loved ones.
