Siaya County Senator James Orengo has demanded that the Director of Criminal Investigations summon Deputy President William Ruto to provide a statement about the Sh21 billion Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal.
The senator made the request during an ODM party campaign event in Sega town for the Ugenya Parliamentary by-election, asserting that Ruto possesses critical information that could aid in recovering the disputed funds.
Ruto has consistently denied allegations of corruption, but his recent claim that only Sh7 billion remains unaccounted for—contradicting earlier reports of Sh21 billion missing—has intensified scrutiny. Senator Orengo criticized the discrepancy between Ruto's statements and those of Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, suggesting irregularities in the matter.
African Union High Representative on Infrastructure Raila Amolo Odinga has repeatedly pressured Ruto to clarify the situation, calling it suspicious that the vice president claims no funds are lost while acknowledging Sh7 billion unaccounted for. Odinga's office has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of colluding with opposition figures to obstruct Ruto's political ambitions under the guise of anti-corruption efforts.
