Nairobi authorities have detained 128 individuals and dismantled 483 unauthorized water connections as part of a citywide operation targeting illicit water usage, according to official reports.
The Nairobi City County Government confirmed that 17 sub-counties are undergoing systematic inspections to eliminate illegal water access points, with notable improvements in service delivery reported in neighborhoods including Huruma, Pangani, and Githurai 44.
County Governor Mike Sonko stated that the initiative has significantly boosted water revenue collection, noting a marked increase in billing figures since the crackdown began. "Our teams are maintaining continuous oversight to eradicate this practice," he said.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, led by Director Nahashon Muguna, is spearheading the operation. A Sh300,000 reward was announced in December for information leading to the identification of water distribution cartels.
