Former Director of Public Prosecutions Philip Murgor resigned from DPP Noordin Haji's special prosecutors team on March 11, 2019, citing lack of case assignments and inadequate security measures. Murgor revealed that he had not been allocated any cases since his formal appointment on January 16, 2019, and expressed concerns about the professional and financial burden of the role without proper support.
"Following the formal gazetting of my appointment on January 16, 2019, I have not been assigned any case at all," Murgor stated. He emphasized that neither he nor other special prosecutors had received adequate security, leading to an unaffordable professional and financial cost for legal practitioners.
Murgor indicated willingness to return to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) if terms included personal security. He referenced colleagues Mr. Waweru Gatonye and Khawar Qureshi QC, who operated on an individual case basis with contracts and security provisions.
