At least 10 Kenyans were among the 157 victims of the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-Max crash near Bishoftu on March 10, 2019, just six minutes after departing from Addis Ababa's Bole International Airport.
The deceased included two Kenyatta University lecturers, Dr. Isaac Mwangi Minae and Prof. Agnes Kathumbi, who served as director of the Centre for International Programs and Collaborations. Prof. Kathumbi, an educational technology expert, was also a member of the university's Senate, while Dr. Minae specialized in educational technology.
Other victims included Mr. Vaibhav Lahoti, a Saudi Arabian Airlines first officer, and Mr. Jonathan Seex, CEO of Tamarind Group, which operates high-end hotels in Nairobi and Mombasa. Seex was photographed in March 2018 during the launch of a Tamarind Tree Hotel. Journalist Anthony Wanjohi Ngare, formerly with the Standard Media Group, also perished.
Isabella Beryl Achie Jaboma, a cancer advocacy NGO worker from Homa Bay, and Dr. Grace Kariuki Murugi, a University of Nairobi-trained medical doctor registered in 2013, were among the deceased. Dr. Murugi graduated in 2011. Additional victims included management consultant Juliet Murundu Otieno and others whose details remain unconfirmed.
