Gospel artist Rufftone revealed his family sensed their father's impending death before Josephat Mwatia passed away in October 2017, citing a sudden cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
Speaking to Word, Rufftone described the emotional toll of losing his father, saying, "We pleaded for his life like twice or so." He reflected on moments when his father's health deteriorated, adding, "There were instances he was taken ill and the situations looked out of control, but we kept on praying God to give us more time with him."
Mwatia's brother confirmed the singer's account, stating the patriarch died after a cardiac event. Rufftone emphasized his father's profound influence, noting, "He was so loving, protective, adviser, and he meant everything in our lives." The artist credited his father with teaching him about marriage, recalling, "When I argue with my wife, I always remember that my dad told me that is part of the marriage package."
Reflecting on his own journey, Rufftone acknowledged early skepticism about his music career. "When I said I was going to venture into music, most people told me Kenyan music doesn't pay," he shared. He credited divine guidance for his longevity in the industry, adding, "Better take care of what you have before you lose it. I learnt that with my dad because you never know when you will lose him."
The artist is currently preparing to release four new songs this year.
