July 31, 2019, marked a significant call to action by the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) as they sought the help of Kenyans to build a hostel for cancer patients from all over the country.
The proposed Ksh. 230 million hostel building project aims to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for patients undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to KNH, the project follows a survey that revealed 30% of 460 patients had either missed treatment or experienced delayed service due to lack of accommodations upon arrival in Nairobi.
Other factors contributing to the delay of treatment included lack of enough money and transportation to the hospital, long queues for patients to be attended, hunger and thirst throughout the day, and not having a place to rest.
The proposed 'Hope Hostel' will accommodate 140 patients and feature three floors, including a day respite area, a cancer resource center, a restaurant, and other support services.
KNH hopes to raise funds for the project through MPESA Paybill No- 474444, KNH Hope Hostel, and is calling upon all people of goodwill to contribute and support this initiative.
However, some Kenyans have expressed fear and dissatisfaction over donating money to the hospital, raising concerns about the project's feasibility and effectiveness.
