French automaker Renault announced Monday it is exploring a revised governance framework with Japanese partners Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motor to strengthen collaboration within their tripartite alliance.
A company statement emphasized the proposed structure would not alter the foundational Restated Alliance Master Agreement or the cross-shareholding arrangement between the firms. 'The planned framework aims to enhance and ensure continued cooperation among the Alliance members,' the statement said.
The development follows recent media speculation about potential restructuring of the 20-year-old partnership, which includes shared manufacturing facilities and joint research initiatives. The original alliance agreement, signed in 1999, established a unique corporate structure with reciprocal shareholdings between Renault, Nissan, and Mitsubishi.
