Gor Mahia's head coach, Hassan Oktay, asserted that the team has grown following their 4-0 loss to Zamalek in the Caf Confederation Cup, emphasizing lessons learned from the defeat.
The Egyptian side secured the victory with goals from Mahmoud Alaa and Youssef Obama in the first half, followed by Ferjani Sassi and Omar El Said in the second half. This result reversed Zamalek's earlier 4-2 loss to Gor Mahia in Nairobi in February.
The defeat left Gor Mahia at the bottom of Group D with six points, while Zamalek climbed to the top with eight points. Angolan side Petro Atletico remains second with seven points, trailing on goal difference.
Oktay told Nation Sport that setbacks provide opportunities for improvement. "Every loss makes you stronger," he said. "You identify weaknesses when playing away from home and work to address them. The more we play outside the country, the more we improve."
The coach confirmed Gor Mahia will aim for a decisive performance in their final group match against Petro Atletico. "We'll give 100% in that game. There's no alternative," he stated.
Gor Mahia, currently fourth in the SportPesa Premier League with 29 points, will face Kakamega Homeboyz in a rescheduled league match later this week.
