Tesla Inc. revealed plans to increase prices for its high-end vehicle models by approximately 3% globally, while maintaining a larger network of physical retail locations than previously outlined. The adjustment affects premium variants of the Model 3, Model S, and Model X, with the base Model 3 retaining its $35,000 price point.
The company set a March 18 deadline for customers to secure vehicles at pre-hike pricing. This move follows Tesla's earlier announcement to transition sales entirely online, aiming to reduce average prices by 6% and achieve the $35,000 target for the Model 3 ahead of schedule.
Despite initial plans to close multiple stores, Tesla will now shutter only half the previously scheduled locations. A few high-traffic outlets closed due to low sales volume will reopen with reduced staffing. These locations will also limit inventory to accommodate immediate vehicle takeaways.
