Gor Mahia's bid for a Caf Confederation Cup quarter-final spot suffered a major setback after a 4-0 loss to Egyptian side Zamalek in Alexandria on February 3, 2019.
The match at El Borg Stadium saw Zamalek take control early with Mahmoud Alaa scoring the opening goal in the 10th minute. Youssef Obama doubled the lead 12 minutes later, followed by Ferjani Sassi and Omar El Said in the final 10 minutes to seal the victory.
The Kenyan champions now sit at the bottom of Group D, with only a win against Petro Atletico in Nairobi's Kasarani Stadium in their final group match offering a path to the quarter-finals. Zamalek lead the group with eight points, ahead of Petro Atletico (7) and NA Hussein Dey (7).
Goalkeeper Fredrick Onyango made several crucial saves, including a point-blank stop from Obama, but could not prevent the heavy defeat that exposed defensive vulnerabilities for Gor Mahia.
