The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has threatened to ban Kenya's Harambee Stars from international competitions if they fail to honour their Africa Nations Championship Qualifier match against Tanzania on Sunday, August 4, 2019.
The team's chances of participating in the match are uncertain due to a lack of funds, with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) unable to secure the necessary financial support from the government.
Unlike during the preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where Harambee Stars received over 240 million shillings from the government, FKF is facing a peculiar situation, with the team's participation in the match against Tanzania hanging in the balance.
The Federation is required to follow a strict procedure to request funds from the Sports Commissioner, which involves writing a letter, scrutiny by the board, and approval from the funds administrator.
As the uncertainty surrounding the match looms, the team remains in camp, hopeful that the government will intervene in the matter.
The winner of the Kenya-Tanzania fixture is set to face Sudan in the next round after a barren draw in the first leg played in Dar Es Salaam on Sunday.
The 2020 Africa Nations Championships will be hosted in Cameroon between January and February.
