Several national teams continue to face financial hardships. The sevens rugby team has struggled in the World Rugby Sevens Series, losing all Group 'B' matches in Canada. Similar issues plague the 15s team, which faced funding shortages during preparations for the 2019 Rugby World Cup qualifiers in Marseille.
Recent protests by athletes highlight the crisis. In November 2019, a national team staged a vigil at the Sports Ministry demanding Sh2 million in allowances for participating in the Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
