Published on July 31, 2019, a heated dispute has erupted in Nakuru County between Flamingo MCA Eddy Kiragu and Governor Lee Kinyanjui. The conflict centers around Kinyanjui's decision to protect Lucy Kariuki, the county executive who was recently impeached.

Before her impeachment, Kariuki was moved from the roads department to the sports, youth, and gender docket by Governor Kinyanjui. The impeachment was a result of allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct. Rumors have been circulating that Kariuki and Kinyanjui have a close relationship, with some even suggesting that they are lovers.

Kiragu, the chair of the county assembly committee on youth, sports, and culture, has expressed his discontent with Kinyanjui's decision. He believes that the youth docket should not be used as a dumping ground for rejected public officers.

Members of the Nakuru County Assembly voted 49-22 to impeach Kariuki, with some citing her failure to deliver on the Boresha Barabara and street lighting projects. Kariuki has defended herself, stating that the delay in the Boresha Barabara project was due to the delay in budget approval. She has also accused the ad-hoc committee chair, Michael Machembu, of leading a witch hunt.
