Ten MPs from Jubilee and ODM have urged Deputy President William Ruto to cease actions they claim undermine the government's anti-corruption campaign, emphasizing unity amid political tensions. The warning came after a church gathering in Nairobi on March 10, 2019, where lawmakers reaffirmed support for President Uhuru Kenyatta's anti-graft initiatives.
Maina Kamanda, a nominated MP, led the remarks, stating that Ruto should resign if he felt targeted unfairly. Kamanda criticized attempts to destabilize the administration, saying, "Those who have looted public funds should stop issuing veiled threats that their communities are being targeted." Simba Arati of Dagoretti North added that Ruto should refrain from attacking Kenyatta's allies, warning against reverting to past political divisions.
Other lawmakers present included Mercy Gakuya, Anthony Oluoch, and Paul Koinange, among others. Joshua Kuttuny of Cherangany directly addressed Ruto, asserting, "You will never get to power using threats, intimidation, and blackmail." The group collectively denounced what they described as destabilizing rhetoric from the deputy president.
