The Kenyan electronic payments company PesaPal unveiled a mobile application in 2019 that expands digital transaction capabilities, including integration with Safaricom’s M-Pesa, Visa, and MasterCard.
The PesaPal Mobile app allows users to purchase airtime, settle utility bills, book travel services, and pay school fees through a unified platform. Available on Google Play and Apple App Store, the free application aims to simplify daily financial management.
Partnerships with Jamii Telcom (Faiba), DStv, GOtv, and Zuku enable bill payments via the app. PesaPal CEO Mark Mwongela emphasized the platform’s focus on consumer lifestyles, offering access to food, entertainment, and travel experiences.
A United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) report highlighted Kenya’s e-commerce growth, noting online shoppers increased from 1.2 million in 2014 to 2.61 million in 2017. The country ranked third in African e-commerce during that period, following South Africa and Nigeria.
