Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has expressed optimism that the border dispute between Uganda and Rwanda will be resolved through ongoing talks.
Speaking to journalists at Kabale State Lodge in western Uganda on Tuesday, President Museveni revealed that he had recently met with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Angola to discuss the border issue.
“Leave it to us. Talks shall continue until the matter is completely resolved,” President Museveni said, urging the public to remain patient and not to speculate on the issue.
President Museveni's comments come after Rwanda closed the Gatuna border post for cargo trucks in February, citing the need for the completion of a one-stop border post.
However, the border remained open for small cars and buses, and Rwanda also stopped its citizens from crossing into Uganda, accusing Kampala of illegally arresting, torturing and deporting its citizens.
Uganda, on the other hand, has accused Rwanda of spying on its territory and infiltrating its security agencies.
