Chipmaker Nvidia Corp is nearing a $7 billion cash acquisition of Mellanox Technologies Ltd, with negotiations positioning the company to surpass Intel Corp in the bidding, according to a source familiar with the discussions.
The potential deal, which could be finalized as early as Monday, emerged after Nvidia outpaced Intel in the auction for the networking hardware firm. The source, who requested anonymity due to the confidential nature of talks, did not specify exact terms.
Nvidia and Mellanox have not commented on the reports. Earlier Sunday, financial outlet Calcalist cited unnamed sources claiming Nvidia had secured an edge over Intel in the acquisition race.
