Tamarind Group chief executive Jonathan Seex was among 157 people killed when Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashed on March 10, 2019, according to official reports.
A statement from Tamarind Tree Hotel in Nairobi expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying: "It is with immense shock and grief to inform you of the tragic news that Tamarind CEO Jonathan Seex was on the ill-fated Ethiopian Airlines flight. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, the Tamarind community and all the others who have suffered unfathomable losses."
The Tamarind Group owns luxury hospitality venues in Kenya, including Tamarind Tree Hotel in Nairobi and Mombasa, the Carnivore, Tamambo Village Market, and Tamambo Karen Bixen Coffee Garden. The crash remains under investigation by aviation authorities.
Kenya accounted for 32 of the 157 fatalities, including pilot Yared Muguleta, an Ethiopian-born Kenyan. The disaster marked one of the deadliest aviation incidents in recent African history.
