The Kenyan national rugby sevens team, known as Shujaa, will compete against Australia in the Challenge Trophy quarterfinals following their relegation from the main tournament after losing all three group B matches in the Vancouver sevens event.
Coached by Paul Murunga, the team suffered a 36-12 defeat to Fiji in their opening game, followed by a 35-12 loss to Samoa and a 36-21 setback against Canada. These results placed them 13th in the World Rugby series standings with 17 points.
President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that all national teams, including the rugby sevens squad, would receive full government funding for international assignments. This support also extends to the Harambee Stars, the national soccer team preparing for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
