Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni's financial situation in 2016 was a cause for concern, prompting him to request a five-month salary advance, equivalent to his monthly basic salary of UGX3.6 million (about Sh101,000).
According to the Uganda Daily Monitor, this request was made public during a meeting between State House officials and the Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday.
Notably, this request came shortly after Museveni's re-election in the 2016 general elections, where he secured a 61 percent margin.
The committee is currently scrutinizing queries raised by the Auditor General in his report for the financial year ending June 2018.
Yunus Akande, a secretary in the office of the President, revealed that Museveni's request for a salary advance led to the need for a supplementary budget, which funded the UGX19 million (about Sh535,000) required.
However, this move has raised eyebrows, with Maruzi County MP Maxwell Akora questioning whether public servants can be granted advances and whether a five-month advance is acceptable.
