Esther Passaris, a Nairobi county representative, has joined a growing list of leaders supporting a bill to legalize medical marijuana in Kenya.
Passaris expressed her support for the bill on Twitter, saying she would back the proposal to legalize medical marijuana.
"Let's have medical marijuana legalized in the country, I fully support this proposal," Passaris tweeted.
The bill to legalize medical marijuana was first introduced in parliament by the late Ken Okoth in 2018. Okoth's bill aimed to allow the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes.
Passaris' support for the bill comes just days after Okoth's death. Okoth's bill had been met with mixed reactions from Kenyans, with some supporting the move and others opposing it.
It remains to be seen whether the bill will be passed into law, but Passaris' support is a significant boost to the campaign.
