Actress Lupita Nyong’o accompanied her parents, Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o and Dorothy Nyong’o, to the global premiere of her film Us at the South by South West Film Festival.
This marks the second time the Nyong’o family has shared in a major career milestone for the Oscar-winning actress. The first occurred in 2014 when she received the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in 12 Years a Slave.
Us, a psychological horror film directed by Jordan Peele, follows Adelaide Wilson (played by Nyong’o) as she returns to her childhood home with her family. Haunted by past trauma, she anticipates a threat that materializes when masked intruders attack, revealing unsettling doppelgängers of her loved ones.
Peele described the film as a commentary on societal divisions, stating, "We’re in a time where we fear the other... Maybe the monster we need to confront has our face." The movie also features Winston Duke and is set for a worldwide release on March 22.
