The Boeing 737-800 Max aircraft operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed shortly after takeoff from Bole International Airport, killing all 149 passengers and crew aboard. The incident occurred moments before the plane was set to arrive in Nairobi.
Kenyatta expressed sorrow over the tragedy, stating, "My prayers go to all the families and associates of those on board." The president emphasized the shared grief between Kenya and Ethiopia amid the disaster.
Raila Odinga conveyed similar sentiments, tweeting: "My deeply felt condolences to the people of Ethiopia following the crash of the Ethiopian Airlines plane. My prayers are with the families and relatives of victims." The statement was posted on March 10, 2019.
Investigations into the crash remain ongoing, with authorities yet to release official findings. The aircraft model has drawn attention due to its association with the October 2018 Lion Air crash in Indonesia, which also involved a Boeing 737-800 Max and resulted in 190 fatalities.
